Boulder election results are here (and they're fantastic)!

The election is now three days behind us, and with the bulk of the counting now concluded, we are incredibly excited about the future of Boulder! All of the candidates endorsed by Boulder Progressives for mayor and city council will almost certainly be part of our elected council over the next two years, and we will likely be gaining two incredible new progressives to our BVSD Board of Education.

We want to congratulate both Aaron Brockett and Nicole Speer on running great campaigns that focused on the needs of people across our community. We are so pleased that with Aaron Brockett winning the mayoral election we can look forward to both Nicole and Aaron continuing in their elected roles for the next two years at least. We are incredibly fortunate to have two such strong, dedicated, and caring people willing to do the hard work of elected office.

We have also never been more enthusiastic about the makeup of our Boulder City Council. Based on unofficial results, Aaron Brockett, Nicole Speer, Lauren Folkerts, Matt Benjamin, and Mark Wallach will be joined by educator, environmentalist, and social justice advocate, Taishya Adams, and by climate expert, transportation activist, and father of two, Ryan Schuchard. These two Boulder Progressives-endorsed candidates will make sure that we are creating a sustainable, welcoming, and diverse city that puts people first.

We welcome back Tara Winer, the highest voter-getter in Boulder City Council history who was supported by many people and community groups across the city, including our friends at Sierra Club and Better Boulder. We also welcome the return to local office of former BVSD Board of Education President Tina Marquis, and appreciate her focus on children, education, and data-focused policies. We are looking forward to working with all of our new and returning council members on housing and transportation policies that will make our city a more inclusive and welcoming place for all.

As we look into the future of another two years of a Progressive majority on council we hope in addition to seeing serious work around housing and transportation we will also see meaningful conversations and resources devoted to supporting the needs of our unhoused community, including ensuring enough shelter beds, safe outdoor spaces, and transitional housing options so that no one will be forced to sleep outside in the cold.

Additionally we will be supporting our council in finding ways to ensure a substantial increase in mental health services, substance use recovery options, and access to inpatient and outpatient services in the city. We will also be looking forward to a council that can take on issues of social and racial justice and policing and police oversight in more serious and meaningful ways, and who will commit to repairing the harm that has been done over the past many years.

We are excited to welcome Boulder Progressives endorsed candidates Jorge Chavez and Alex Medler to the BVSD school board, their deep expertise and knowledge will be much-needed over the challenges of the next years.

We also congratulate Neil Fishman and Andrew Brandt on incredible campaigns. While we aren’t lucky enough to have their leadership on the BVSD board over the next four years, we know that their contributions to our community began long before this campaign and will continue long after. We look forward to working with Jason Unger and Lalenia Quinlan Aweida on creating policies and practices that set all of our children up for success.

This has been a successful and inspirational election for all of us across the City of Boulder. We know that our city council has heard loudly and clearly that you believe in a future for our city that is welcoming, inclusive, and innovative.

With so much to celebrate, now is the time to keep this momentum up by supporting Boulder Progressives! Please donate to Boulder Progressives to support our ongoing work. Please also consider joining our team of volunteers and advocating for Progressive values across the city of Boulder.

Thank you for all your hard work in this election! Thank you for donating, thank you for volunteering, thank you for sharing the word about these incredible candidates with your friends and family, thank you for engaging in conversations across the community about your values and your beliefs, and THANK YOU for voting!

The future is bright, Boulder.
